Miami Stainless customises streamline balustrades for NY bespoke stair designer

New York-based bespoke stair designer and builder Lunna Designs chose a custom balustrade system from Australian company Miami Stainless for a new home in New Jersey, USA.

The $24,000 USD project was commissioned by Robert Gross, Senior Designer at the award-winning design firm Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership, when he was building a home for his parents. Working at a firm that specialised in high-end residential design, Robert was familiar with high-level customisation and its many challenges and requirements. His design for the stair’s rail system consisted of stainless steel wire cable and matte black posts, finished with rift cut white oak handrails.

Following a series of meetings between Lunna Designs’ owner Frank Miano and Robert, the shop drawings were created and quality products sourced to complete the balustrade system. Since Robert sought to minimise the amount of visible hardware on the wire systems, Frank looked for suitable fittings in the US before expanding his search overseas and identifying the Australian owned hardware company Miami Stainless’ range of streamline fittings.

To meet with the project’s specifications, Miami Stainless created a custom balustrade system with a streamline appearance.

Among the products specified were the Nutsert Swage Stud system and the ProRig Original Design Flip Toggle System for the balustrades throughout the home. The Nutsert Swage Stud was used on the staircases with swivel connectors allowing the wires to be installed at any angle required. The Flip Toggle System allowed the wire to be inserted and fixed to the metal posts with no adjustment hardware visible on the outside.

The staircase project was a great success, complete with an elegant balustrade design that met Robert’s expectations. Thanking Frank for the sophisticated work executed in terms of engineering, detailing and fabricating the stair and bridge railings for the house, he also praised the quality of the Miami Stainless products, describing their wire products as crisp and clean. The designer received a lot of positive feedback about the lightness and sleekness of the railing system.
